All
prices are in German marks unless otherwise noted.
At time of show report, 1 U.S. dollar is worth approximately 2.1 German marks.

Albert Von Schweikert's latest
speaker offering, the VR-7, made it across the pond to Germany. The list price for this
speaker in Germany is 43,000 DM per pair.

The component shown on far right is
the AcousticPlan Sarod amplifier, which lists for 7200 DM. The gentleman representing the
company is holding a special active crossover that goes inside the amplifier and is
designed to mate with any of AcousticPlan's own loudspeaker models. The active crossover
is 1600 DM.

Another competitor in the DVD-A race
is Audionet of Germany. Shown is their prototype DVD-Audio player called the Art. Since it
is a prototype, no street or list price was given.

Germany's Burmester had many of
their gorgeous-looking components on display, including the 808 Mk5 preamplifier, which
lists for 30,700 DM.

Thomas Fast of Fast Audio is happy
to show his software that attempts to predict loudspeaker (of specific models) and room
response and the result of placing his own company's acoustical treatment products in that
room. Thomas says that you can go to their website and try it out for yourself.

One of the most interesting products
we saw was the Fidel Art Gold Line speaker cables. According to the company, their silence
technology "cancels the noise created by the internal movements of the
molecules." The cables include not only the wire portion, but the complete stand unit
as well. The price is 13,000 DM per pair.

Jeff Fritz eyes the cool-looking
37Wpc Cayin 500 stereo amplifier that retails 5900 DM.

This speaker looks a tad odd, but
actually sounded quite nice at this show. The CD Duevel Jupiter loudspeaker from German
attempts to create a 360-degree soundfield by firing the woofer upward and into the wooden
cone unit (which pushes the waves out the side), and the midrange/tweeter downward through
a horn and also out the side. The price is 22,000 DM per pair.

Jeff Fritz quite liked the look of
the marble-baffled, Belgian-made Paulann Stromboli speakers. The speaker is available in a
variety of marble finishes and is priced at 11,000 DM per pair.

The Samuel Johnson company is based
in Scotland and has plenty of very attractive products. Shown above is the PTS100 CD
transport priced at 1000 pounds.

Germany's Backes & Mueller
showed the fully-powered BM 30 loudspeaker priced at 60,000 DM per pair.
