SoundStage! coverage-team member Jeff Fritz was smart and booked his flight so he would get to Frankfurt a day early. Doug Schneider, on the other hand, arrives at the airport in Ottawa, Canada and waits for his first connection to Boston. From there it's off to Frankfurt. Scheduled time of arrival in Germany? 5:45 AM the day of the show!

If you have any fears of flying, going from Ottawa to Boston on a twin-prop Saab 340 aircraft will ensure that all of your nightmares come true. With a flight as smooth as a child's red wagon being pulled over a gravel road, flying time to Boston was a bone-chilling 1 hour and 10 minutes.

After 14 hours of flying, layover time and taxis, it all ends up here. Jet-lagged, sleepless, hungry and frustrated (because it took him 45 minutes to figure out how to get an Internet connection in Germany), Herr Schneider sits down at his trusted Sony laptop to upload the first installment of the show report.

Same people, different city! One of the first groups we ran into consisted of (from left to right): Jeffrey von Dam of O.L.S Audiotechnologies (Belgium), Elina Dobin of Lamm Industries (USA), Charles von Oosterum of O.L.S. (he is the president and chief designer), Trevor de Maat of Trema Sound (USA), and Julian Pelchant of Verity Audio (Canada). At CES 2000, Lamm showed with Kharma loudspeakers (Trema Sound is the US distributor and O.L.S is the manufacturer of Kharma speakers). At this show, O.L.S. is not displaying (they were happily just spectators) and Lamm is teamed up with Verity Audio, who showed their Parsifal Encore loudspeaker with Lamm ML2 monoblocks.

Live music is the name of the game. Recording artist Dave Goodman played in the halls of High End 2000.

Doug Schneider (right) is on his toes and tries to stand tall with well-known turntable maker Franc Kuzma (left) of Slovenija and speaker-maker Horst Gunther Paul (center) of Germany's HGP.
