The first two DVD-Audio players from
Kenwood are also multidisc changers. On top is DV-4900 ($1200), which includes built-in
DTS and Dolby Digital decoders in addition to its 24-bit/192kHz DACs. Below it is the
nearly identical DV-4070 ($1000), which omits some of the "drive refinements" of
the more expensive model along with its wood side panels and two-tone cosmetics. Of
course, both players handle DVD-Video discs and CDs too.

Another hot product from Kenwood is
the top-of-the-line VR-4900 receiver ($2300), which includes Kenwood's "Universal
Video" feature, allowing the receiver to transcode video signals between Composite
and S-Video, which can then be upconverted to a Component signal. This cuts down on video
wiring while converting the video signal to the highest quality connection between
receiver and monitor.

One more from Kenwood, the CD-425M
CD carousel CD player ($300), which can be connected via the Internet to Gracenote's
Compact Disc Database, from which it can download and store CD title and track information
for 600,000 discs. The player also comes with the wireless keyboard shown for manual entry
of this information.

JoLida displayed two new mono
amplifiers: the JD 3000A (left, $4900 per pair), which uses 211 and EL34 outputs tubes to
deliver 200 watts, and the JD 3001 ($3000 per pair), which uses a quad of EL34s for
produce 100 watts.

B&K's Phono 10 MM/MC phono stage
(top) can be purchased with (for $698) or without ($498) an analog-to-digital converter.
It also offers capacitive and resistive cartridge loading.

TARA Labs had a number of new power
products on hand, including the PowerScreen AD/10B balanced-power conditioner (shown
above, $2495) as well as three new power cords: RSC Prime AC ($395), RSC Air AC ($695),
and The One AC ($1195).

The pen on top of the left stack of these Parasound mini components gives
an indication of their size. Included are the Zpre preamp ($350), Zamp 30Wpc amplifier
($250), TDQ-150 AM/FM tuner ($260), CSE 6.1 SRS/Circle Surround decoder (under $400 when
available), and PPH moving-magnet/moving-coil phono preamp ($140).
