 High
End 2001 -- Frankfurt, Germany
Standout Room - Acapella Audio Arts, Clearaudio, Symphonic Line, Unison Research

Walking into the Acapella Audio Arts room was
like walking into another world within the world of High End 2001. This system generated
perhaps the most word of mouth at the show -- and for good reason. It epitomized the
artistic and emotional experience of high-end audio. Alfred Rudolph of Acapella conducted
the demo, which consisted of his Campanili loudspeakers (with an ion tweeter and four
internally mounted subwoofers, approximately 60,000 DM per pair), the Clearaudio Reference
turntable (50,000 DM as configured), the Unison Research Absolute integrated amplifier
(58,000 DM), and Symphonic Line Reference CD player (12,000 DM). The cabling, also by
Acapella, was all pure silver. The sound was extraordinarily large, robust and enveloping.
Was it natural and neutral? Who's to say really, but it certainly was fun. Most
other systems seemed tame by comparison.
