Standout Room - Tacet Audio

Recording company Tacet Audio provided the
best multichannel demonstration we heard with their original DVD-A recordings. The German
company has four releases to date with an impressive release schedule of one disc per
month beginning in September. The tracks we heard were recorded in several different
arrangements; instruments were placed in front of the listener for a traditional
soundstage with added ambience, and all around the room to simulate a relaxed atmosphere
with musicians in various locations. This was no contrived surround demonstration as we
have heard many times at shows. The music was natural and appropriate, as it was
purpose-recorded for five-channel audio. Each disc contains both DVD-A as well as standard
Dolby Digital 5.1 for those who do not have DVD-A players. Above, Roland Kistner (left)
and Andreas Spreer proudly hold two of their releases.
