 CEDIA
Expo 2001 -- Indianapolis, IN USA
Daily Coverage - September 9
All prices in US dollars.

The side panel of Krell's LAT-1 speaker
($37,500/pair) can open for inspection and service. The black fixture near the top of the
cabinet is the internal enclosure for the LAT-1's two midrange drivers and tweeter.

The Rio Audio Receiver ($349) will distribute
MP3 files from a computer to anywhere in a house via a telephone line, but it will not
interrupt phone service. Software and a PCI card are supplied; any 10MB or 1MB
home-networking kit that supports HPNA 1.0 or 2.0 will work with the unit.

The Princeton AF3.0HD 30" 16:9 HDTV
($2299) displays 480p, 720p, 1080i, and VGA-XGA video in native mode without up or down
conversion. A built-in line doubler for enhanced resolution from standard video sources is
also included.

Denon's DVM 4800 ($1249) is a five-disc
DVD-V/DVD-A changer with progressive-scan capability and "Alpha 24 Processing
Plus."

A Sharp industrial-grade LCD monitor is
connected to the Sharp SD-AT100 1-bit digital receiver ($1799), which comes with five
speakers and Pro Logic II processing.

JVC is once again making receivers, and had
two new models on display: the THX Ultra-certified RX-DP10 (shown, $1700) and THX
Select-certified RX-DP9 ($1100)

The undulated front panels of the EAD
components on display presented a photographic challenge, but Doug Blackburn persisted.
From top to bottom are the Ultra DVD-V/DVD-A player ($3995 with Genesis video processing,
$4995 with Faroudja video processing), Ovation-8 surround-sound processor ($4495), and
PM-8000 eight-channel modular amplifier ($4750).

Another photographic challenge were the Theta
Citadel 400W mono amps ($16,000/pair).

Teac showed the retro-looking SL-D80 AM/FM
radio/CD player ($149) with clock and sleep timer in three different color schemes.

The Quantum Products Octave (left, $450) and
ElectroClear ($300 for six, $180 for three) use the company's QRT technology to reduce
power-line noise.

The Richard Grays Power Company 1200S now
comes in silver (top) and European versions. The price remains $2100 for either new model.

The Fidek FPA-4002 amplifier offers 400Wpc in
stereo mode and 800W when switched to mono. It's sold by MCM Electronics at the budget
price of $402.99 -- or slightly over 50 cents per watt.

Simaudio's Moon Stellar DVD player features
Videon Stingray line-doubling circuitry with Faroudja DCDI "to prevent the
introduction of motion artifacts and jagged edges." The Stellar costs $5995 with the
circuitry, and $3995 without.

Simaudio's Moon Attraction 7.1 surround-sound
processor ($6295) impresses with its tank-like stature and use of audiophile-quality
input/output jacks, a rarity among home-theater products.
