Canada's Verity Audio unveiled the new
$4995/pair Tamino loudspeaker. The Tamino is the company's lowest-priced speaker, but it
retains the elegant design and appearance of the more costly Verity speakers. The front
and back views above show the "trickle-down" technology look and design of
Verity's Fidelio and Parsifal models.

The Audiomeca Mephisto II CD player ($7500)
uses 32-bit/192kHz floating-point processing. It made wonderful music in a system that
included Aloia electronics and Verity Tamino speakers.

The Tenor Audio 75 WI four-input mono
integrated amp ($18,600/pair) is an OTL design that uses 6C33-C tubes to produce 75W. It's
also available as a power amp.

Scarlet Audio showed its line of mono
amplifiers and a prototype preamp at the show, all of which use Plitron toroidal
transformers exclusively. The 25W Pearl ($25,000 CDN/pair) drove Merlin VSM-Millennium
speakers and produced Standout sound.

On static display in the Scarlet Audio room
was a pair of the immense Masterpiece monoblocks ($42,000 CDN/pair), which are
shown with KR 842 VHD output tubes, but can use the 300 BXLS too. Each amp produces 70
watts.

The gorgeous Tannoy Dimension TD12
($10,000/pair) speaker was making its North American debut in Montreal. The TD12 uses
Tannoy's super tweeter in a separate module on top, and it takes the distinction of being
the first speaker we've seen that's partially clad in velvet.
