Velodyne's whopping Signature 1812 two-way
subwoofer uses 12" and 18" drivers and a pair of 1250W amplifiers. But even more
impressive is the 1812's Digital Drive room-analysis and correction system, which measures
response in the listening area and digitally corrects any anomalies, storing the settings
in memory. The price of this appliance-sized subwoofer is $15,000.


The Aragon Power Box is a unique product that
addresses a number of power-related issues, including ground-loop hum and switching for
multiple high-power amplifiers. It includes a built-in Aragon Magic Box and will be
available in mid-December for $1500.

Simaudio's Moon Orion DVD player ($4795 fully
equipped) uses Burr-Brown PCM1730E 24-bit/192kHz DACs for high-end sound along with
Faroudja DCDi video processing and Videon Stingray line doubling for state-of-the-art
video performance.

Sony continues to offer products that defy
price/performance logic. The DRV-C770 5.1-channel system uses digital-amplification
technology to produce 90Wpc, incorporates a CD/DVD-V/SACD changer, and includes five
speakers and a subwoofer -- all for $699.

The new EAD TheaterMaster Studio
preamp/processor is said to be the first implementation of Texas Instruments' DA-610
platform. It includes ten-channel output and throughput, high-bandwidth component-video
input, and video up-conversion -- among many other features. It will be available
in January 2003 for $10,000. |
