When Jeff "I need a subwoofer with a
driver 18" or larger" Fritz is impressed with low-end response from a speaker
system, you have to take notice. Doug Schneider did, and both concurred that this system,
based on Ascendo's top-of-the-line €19,600-per-pair System M loudspeakers and their
proprietary €7200 DASK-V room-correction processor (on bottom shelf of stand), was a
real standout. The bass was jaw-droppingly deep and had impact that could be felt. The
midrange and high frequencies were clear and exceedingly well defined. Driving the
speakers were two CAT JL-2 amps, and the digital source was the Audio Aero Capitole Mk II
CD player (the CAT SL-1 Ultimate preamplifier is shown in the picture, but it was not
