The full Revox audio/video system on display in Montreal combined striking aesthetics with solid build quality and refined performance. The heart of the system is the M 51 ($11,500 CAD), which has capability far beyond that of typical surround-sound receivers. Along with five channels of power (60W each) and DSP signal decoding, it also has a CD/DVD player and FM tuner along with giving the ability for consumers to use it as a multi-room sound controller. The design of the M 51 is modular and accepts computer-like cards for future technological advancements. The cabinets of the slender Elegance-series speakers are machined from solid billets of aluminum that are anodized and bead-blasted. The sleek Column A 1 ($3475/pair CAD), Center A 1 ($1495 CAD), and Shelf A 1 ($2150/pair CAD) have a disappear-in-the-room appearance but a large and exceedingly noteworthy sound. The E 642 plasma display ($21,500 CAD) was also from Revox. All electronics were plugged into a Richard Gray’s Power Company 400S.

No subwoofer was used, but the richness and vibrancy of the sound were evident. A multichannel choral piece produced a stage that spread far beyond the width of the speakers in the room. This was upscale audio/video equipment that we enjoyed immensely.
