Big speakers and big amps crammed into a small hotel room
usually makes for sonic problems, but the system assembled by Simaudio and Dynaudio proved
to be a great exception to the rule, providing, among other things, bass that was very
deep and weighty but not overbearing. Simaudio Moon Eclipse CD player ($5295), P-5 preamp
($3995) and Rock mono amps ($29,995/pair) drove Dynaudio Contour 3.0 speakers ($5995/pair)
via Harmonic Technology cables. Simaudio's Lionel Goodfield said he tweaked the speakers'
placement in small increments throughout the day, listening for improvements with each
small move. "And they'll probably be further out from the front wall later
today." System optimization stops only after the show has finished. |
