Daily Coverage Highlights
January 10, 2002

The Acapella Campanile speakers ($31,900/pair) were driven by a new fully balanced version of the Audio Aero Capitole stereo amp, which retains its $8600 price.

Speaker Art's Super Clef tl ($4600) is a transmission-line design that impressed Marc Mickelson and Doug Schneider with its extended and highly musical performance.

These two photos show American Acoustic Development's (AAD) E88 loudspeaker, which has an active bass section with a 6" woofer (on the other side of the cabinet) and a 55W built-in amplifier (as seen on the right photo of the cabinet's back). The price is to be determined.

Athena Technologies introduced the AS-P400 (left) and AS-P600 subwoofers. The AS-P400 has a 10" driver and a 100W built-in amplifier, and the AS-P600 has a 12" driver with a 150W amplifier. Each of the subwoofers has specific crossover points marked, which helps with matching different models in the company's Audition-series loudspeakers. Pricing is yet to be announced.

GutWire displayed its new Basic speaker cable ($399/eight-foot pair).

Rosinanté's Sancho subwoofer ($3200) is an isobaric design that fires in two directions and can accept either mono or stereo input.

Dynaudio has expanded their Evidence series into home theater. The Evidence Center is priced at $16,500 (with adjustable stand) and comes finished in bird's eye maple, rosewood, and other finishes available upon request.

Acoustic Energy's AEGO5 five-channel speaker system comes with remote control, decoder and subwoofer for $1198, or without the decoder and remote for $799.

Arcam CD performance is now available for $599 in the form of the new CD62.

Energy unveiled the new Connoisseur series of speakers. Pictured are the three floorstanders in the lineup (there are also two bookshelf models, as well as surround speakers and a center-channel). From left to right are the C9 ($1299/pair), C7 ($999/pair), C5 ($750/pair). All models use aluminum-cone woofers.

The $1495 Hyperion BEC-225 integrated amp with remote control is a dual-mono design that outputs 75Wpc. According to the manufacturer, it runs in class A but operates at a very cool temperature.

New from ProAc are the Response D15 (left, $3000/pair) and Tablette Reference Eight ($1200/pair).

Marantz SR8200 surround-sound receiver is THX Select certified and priced at $1699. In addition to standard surround decoding, it features newer formats such as THX Surround EX, DTS-ES, and Dolby Pro Logic II. The receiver outputs 120Wpc (six channels) and has Crystal 24-bit/192kHz DACs.

The new Marantz SA8260 is a two-channel-only SACD player that sells for $1049.

Jeff Fritz was very impressed with the high-quality appearance of the Unisound SCP18B loudspeaker, priced at $699 per pair.

Art Audio's Gill Signature SET amplifier is a hard-wired design that uses EL34 tubes to deliver 15Wpc. It sounded surprisingly dynamic driving Soliloquy 6.5 speakers.

Simaudio's immense Moon Rock mono amps ($29,995/pair) used its 1000 watts to drive Merlin VSM-Millennium speakers.

The various driver modules of the Essence Denali speaker ($35,000/pair) are floated on Aurios bearings -- 18 in total for each speaker.

This yet-to-be-named Heil loudspeaker ($3000/pair) has much improved cosmetics over earlier Heil speakers.

Arcam has finalized the cosmetics and functionality of its AV-8 surround-sound processor ($4500).

The signs says almost all -- except that Bluenote Audio Steroid One integrated amp sounded very fine driving Shering speakers. Both brands are imported and distributed in the US by Leo Massi at Hy End Audio.
