| Burmester
Burmester's room featured a surround-sound
system that was amazingly smooth-sounding and coherent. The system included prototypes of
the 007 surround-sound processor and 961 center-channel speaker. The rest of the system
consisted of the B 99 Reference speakers as mains ($47,780/pair), 949 Mk 2 speakers as
surrounds ($22,120/pair), 969 CD transport ($27,930), a stereo TOP-LINE 911 Mk 3 amp for
the rears ($18,710), monoblocks for the fronts, BASIC-LINE 933 Mk 2 power conditioner
($5650), and Burmester's own cables. Jeff Fritz, who writes the "Surrrounded!"
column on multichannel music for SoundStage!, commented as only he can: "You
pay a load of money, but you get a load of sound." |
