While walking the halls of the Alexis Park, we were stopped by a loudspeaker designer who commented that he'd heard a horn-loaded speaker that he "actually liked," and we knew immediately which speaker he was talking about: the Carfrae Little Big Horn ($17,500), which uses a single horn-loaded full-range driver and powered sub-bass unit. The speakers were driven by Wavelength Cardinal X1 mono amplifiers ($7500/pair) and Sine NCE preamp (about $5000). Cables were Cardas Golden Reference. This system was marked by exceptional clarity in the midrange and clean treble, both of which could draw listeners into the room even from outside.
